Allan Withington, som per i dag er kunstnarleg leiar for Manger Musikklag, gjev seg i denne rolla etter sesongen 2024/2025. MML er svært glade for at han i fjor ønskte å kome tilbake til Musikklaget, men alt har ein ende, og neste år vert hans siste år som fast dirigent hjå MML.
Manger Musikklag og Allan har ei historie som strekk seg over ein periode på over 40 år. Han er, og har vore, ein bauta i laget og ein person som MML har mykje å takke for. Det er mange høgdepunkt - alt frå innspeling av CDar til flotte og kreative konsertar og ikkje minst til sigrar i fleire viktige konkurransar som Siddis Brass, NM og WMC. Allan skriv følgjande om tida med Manger Musikklag: "My connection with Manger Musikklag goes back to the early 1980`s when I was a guest soloist with the band playing Denis Wright`s cornet concerto at a venue just outside of Bergen. Michael Antrobus was the conductor. Some years later, I took over as conductor and together we won both Siddis Brass and the Norwegian National Championships. For me, the high point of our collaboration was winning the World Music contest in Kerkrade, Holland in 2013. Numerous concerts and CD recordings followed and after 18 years as professional conductor with Stavanger Brass Band, last year I accepted the same post with Manger.
Next season i am looking forward to some great concerts and competitions with the Band. September marks an important anniversary for the contemporary music festival in Bergen, Brass Wind. Siddis Brass follows in November and then the Norwegian National Championships in February. We are then planning a late night concert in connection with the European Championships in Stavanger in May of next year which will be my final appearance with the Band.
They are a great bunch of people with a fantastic work ethic and I wish the band every success for the future. i think the concert in Stavanger will be a fitting end to a collaboration which has lasted around 40 years."
Me ser no fram til eit siste år i lag med fleire store arrangement og prosjekt på planen. Om ein månad reiser me til Europa på turné, vidare skal Allan dirigere på konsertane MML skal spele når BrassWind feirar 20 år og me skal sjølvsagt spele Siddis og NM med Allan ved roret. Tida til Allan vil verte avslutta med konsert våren 2025. Me vonar mange vil følgje med oss det komande året!
